Two Wheels, One Journey: Our Story on the Road

As part of our relocation journey, I wanted to take a little detour and share a more personal part of our story—how our Harley adventures became such a big part of our lives and something that means a lot to us.

When my husband and I first got together back in 2013, he had a Harley, but ended up selling it. In 2021, during a trip to Florida, we decided it was time to bring the fun back—and we bought a 2016 blue Harley Davidson Electra Glide Limited. We trailered it all the way back to New York and rode it every chance we got.

Not long after, he surprised me with a bike of my own—a 1200 Harley Davidson Nightster. I gave it an honest try, but it didn’t take long to realize I felt much more at home riding with him than taking the lead. So, we ended up selling it, and I happily returned to my role as the passenger princess.

That Electra Glide gave us some incredible memories—from weekend rides and charity runs to an unforgettable trip up to Maine. When we made the move to Tennessee, it came along with us, cruising down winding back roads and scenic routes all over the region. We’ve met some amazing people here.

But one of our biggest adventures came in 2022 when we were invited to go to Sturgis, South Dakota for the iconic motorcycle rally. It was a 24-hour haul that we split over three days, trailering the bike. My husband had always dreamed of going; I had never even heard of it! (Packing was a whole thing—I was just glad we didn’t have to fit everything on the bike!)

We had the privilege of driving up to and exploring Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Deadwood, Custer State Park (where we rode right beside wild buffalo!), the Badlands, and even the Jewel Cave National Monument. One of the highlights was visiting the Full Throttle Saloon—such a wild and fun experience. That trip was unforgettable—(more to come on that later…with Pictures) and we didn’t come home empty-handed. We traded in our Electra Glide and came back with a 2021 Harley Davidson Road Glide CVO.

Back home in Kingsport, we made more memories on that Road Glide. We have a son, a dog, cats, chickens, ducks, we had a pig….and full time jobs. Needless to say if we can hit the road on the bike for a bit, it’s always nice.

When Hurricane Helene came through, we weren’t overly worried—we had done our research before moving regarding the weather that East Tennessee normally got. And thankfully, we were absolutely blessed that the damage was not as bad as others faced. But it did send a tree crashing down on our shed—completely crushing the Road Glide, everything inside, and slightly damaging our home. When I went back to work the amount of calls we received form people in our community of east TN suffering the loss of food, more extensive damage to their homes and their vehicles rocked me, but what rocked me more was hearing what people in Greeneville and Erwin TN and Asheville NC were going through. It was humbling to take pause and feel for others as they went through devastating loss. Our insurance covered most of our loss and we felt grateful for that. As we saw our Harley was damaged it hit home for us though, this is a pastime that my husband and I share together and have for some time now. Unfortunately, we didn’t have gap insurance and still owed on a bike that was now totaled. So it took some time for us to get another bike. For my husband, it felt like an eternity!

But today, we’re back on the road with a 2020 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Limited—in bold orange and black, with a super comfortable seat (which I truly appreciate!). The adventures are already picking back up, and I can’t wait to share more of them with you.

From NY to TN, and everywhere in between—this journey has been full of unexpected turns, but also unforgettable moments. I hope you’ll continue to follow along as we keep exploring, one ride at a time.
